Privacy policy
CountDrill is a free personal project. This page explains what information is collected, why, where it is kept, and your rights.
Who is responsible
CountDrill is run as a personal, non-commercial project. The operator is responsible for the information described here and can be reached at countdrillbj@gmail.com.
Without an account
You can use the whole site and every drill without signing in. Your progress and your colour theme are kept in your own browser and are not sent to us.
When you open the trainer, finish a test, or are shown the offer to keep your progress in an account, an anonymous count is sent to us: the course, the level number, the score and the name of the event. It carries no account, no cookie, no IP address and no browser details. We only add 1 to a counter, so no count can be linked to another count or to you. Nothing is counted until you have interacted with the page, and nothing is counted for automated browsers. To count each visit once, a marker is kept in your browser's session storage; it holds no identifier and is deleted when you close the tab. These counts tell us where learners get stuck, and whether the offer to sign in helps.
Visit statistics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies: it counts visits and pages, country, type of device and the site you came from, and does not identify you. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address in order to deliver the pages; we do not receive or store it.
With an account (optional sign-in with Google)
- What is stored: your Google account's email address, your Google account identifier, your progress in each of the two courses, and each test you finish: course, level, score, whether you passed, and when.
- What is not stored: your name, profile photo, IP address, browser or device type, passwords, or any access to your Google account.
- Why: to keep your progress across devices, and to understand which levels learners get stuck on so the course can be improved. The operator can see each learner's progress.
- Is it required: no. Without an account your progress is kept in your browser only.
- Cookie: one sign-in cookie, strictly necessary for staying signed in, valid for 30 days.
- In your browser: the browser also remembers which account its progress belongs to. Signing out removes the progress of both courses from the browser, so the next person to use the device does not inherit it.
Legal basis (EU and UK)
Account information is processed because it is necessary to provide the account you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR). The per-level statistics drawn from it are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the course (Article 6(1)(f)). Information kept only in your browser is stored there because it is needed for the service you use. The anonymous counts contain no personal data.
Where it is kept, and who else handles it
Information is stored with Cloudflare, in its Western European data centres, and sign-in goes through Google. Both are US companies certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions, which is the basis for any transfer of your information to the United States. We do not sell your information, do not share it with anyone else, do not use it for advertising or profiling, and make no automated decisions about you.
How long
For as long as the account exists. Deleting the account removes all of its information immediately; automatic backups are kept for up to 7 days and are then deleted as well. The anonymous counts are not personal data and are kept as totals.
Your rights
In the EU, the EEA and the UK, you have the right to access your information, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live.
In the United States, state privacy laws such as California's give you the right to know what information is held about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. We do not sell or share personal information, and we will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
We extend these rights to everyone, wherever you live. You can delete your account at any time with "Delete account" in the account panel, or write to us for anything else; we reply within one month.
Children
The site is about blackjack and is not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children; if you believe a child has created an account, write to us and it will be deleted.
